Filter Media

Filter Media is a low nutrient sandy loam soil that is blended with organic compost and matter. It is free from rubbish, harmful materials, toxicants, declared plants and local weeds, and is capable of growing vegetation that is adapted to a freely draining soil.

Filter Media’s main use is as the filtration layer of Bio-Retention Pits, also commonly known as Rain Gardens. It is used to filter out pollutants and hold moisture in the pit, which prevents erosion and stops the underlying soils from drying up.

The Bio-Retention Filter Media guidelines require the Filter Media layer itself to be between 400 and 600mm deep (or as specified in the engineering design).

Filter Media is available by the tonne.
